Prob should start with Ratty
He has a pillow, a gift from Shaz, and he likes to lounge around when he's in a 'lounging around' mood...
I think we could quite happily refer to him as Princess Ratstice
Baking
When we packed up Mum's stuff we unearthed some long forgotten bits n pieces... her hand written recipe books were one of the treasures
I can remember when we were little, these little blue books floating around in our kitchen in the drawer with the tea towels. Most of them are written by Mum but there's also a small section that was written by our Grandmother, Dad's Mum, a long time ago. Today I felt like baking so we went through the little books with their well worn, dog eared pages and found the one with the most grease stains. We figured this one had to be the favourite!
that faint pencil drawing right at the lower edge is a scroll... just in case you're not sure what the biccies should look like :)
Simple biscuit dough, layered with jam, rolled up and sliced into rounds then baked. Served with a smile, a dusting of icing sugar and a hot cup of tea. We couldn't stop at one or two or even three....
Can't share the recipe because Essie Andrews would never forgive me :)
Stitching
Lots of needle work being done in the Willowberry house... Stitching for the QFD event - and Shaz gave it the royal nod of approval :) It's quilted with Holly leaves...
Do you label your quilts? Me too... I like to make them a bit individual if I have time, by stitching something special, including the date and any other important info (if it will fit!), like this little label I designed for the Christmas in July event. This one has already been revealed to the participants so I think it's ok to show it here. It's very cute and only takes one night in front of Masterchef and Rescue Special Ops...
I loved stitching this little label... and made one for Sarah
My other stitching project at the moment features some gorgeous lettering from Kaari Meng's delightful book 'Home Sewn'... it's one of my all time faves, reflecting the rustic simplicity of country France. If you haven't peeped inside this book you need to go find one and take a look. Make a cuppa and bake some Golden Jam biscuits then sit down for a bit of 'me' time...
Go to the French General site and click on 'books'.. or anything else you find... it's all yum
Quilting
We're slowly getting back into the swing of life again, including my quilting routine. Red/Black/White... always striking
The quilt room is almost tidy enough to show...
I have a 3m wide glass door on the southern side... sometimes I have an audience... A 6' fence will go up on Monday and my bovine friends will need to find someone else to chat to. I'll miss them, great big lumbering things
We have some more interesting days ahead of us.. a visit from my big sister in a week or so, a little speedbump, a meeting in Brissie with Joy and Deb and a few others, then a break in far north Queensland. And a family wedding in March next year which means I have 7 months to whittle the waistline a bit... better stop looking through those recipe books of Mum's!
This one...
from the 'Butter Marketing Board, Brisbane Royal National Show, 1963' claims that 'only dairy fats can normalise your weight'...
Cracks me up every time I think about it...
Maybe next time we'll take a tour of the new house... it's almost done and the funny little man has been building stuff... a shade house, some vegie gardens, a couple of climbing trellis' for a couple of climbers. And I'll show off one of our totally beautiful family photos, seriously, we all look so gorgeous!
seeya,
Cheryl xx
thanks for your patience while we sort things out... we're almost done :)
